On Sunday, November 20, 2011, a group of pastors, church leaders and believers from various denominations gathered together for the first ever Bible Parade in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. The parade had a great turn out and went through the main streets of San Pedro ending at the Old Football Field where the congregation gathered for worship with great words of inspiration and presentations by several pastors and church leaders.
The idea of having a Bible Parade on the island was presented by Pastor Alex Tzib of Emmanuel Pentecostal Church. A group of pastors and Christian leaders in San Pedro Town met several months ago to discuss and pray for some of the issues facing our beautiful and greatly loved town. The thought of an expression of God’s love to the residence of San Pedro Town became the center of the discussion and how it can best display it to the community.
The idea of the Bible Parade was quickly agreed and plans were put into action by the leadership of Pastors Alex Tzib, Francisco Flores, Marvin Gomez, and director of Lighthouse Christian Radio Ministry Clive Welsh.
Churches and Christian organization involved in the event were Lighthouse Christian Radio, Shalom Church, Emmanuel Pentecostal Church, Living Word Church, Assemblies of God church, Reform Evangelical Church, Holiness Church, Dios es Amor Ministry, Faith Bible Church and San Pedro Community Church.
The Parade was led by the San Pedro RC School band marched and there were several well decorated and colorful float all surrounding the Bible with Scripture verses on placates. There were also gospel music bands and music provided by Lighthouse Christian radio on FM 101.3 blasting on the streets of San Pedro Town.
“This was all done to uplift the Bible which proclaims the Lord Jesus Christ who loves the residents of San Pedro Town and that He is the answer to all our problems as revealed to us in the Bible,” commented organizers for the Bible Parade.
The parade ended at the Old Football Field where an estimated 1,000 Christians gathered for a time of praise and worship with several presentations from various churches; music, dramas, and dance followed by each pastor introducing themselves and praying for the needs of San Pedro Town and its residents.
Minister of Tourism and Area Representative, Honorable Manuel Heredia, addressed the congregation with a speech mentioning that the Churches are the root of Christianity in our town and Nation and is it vital in the education of the children and the growing community of San Pedro Town.
