First Ever Fly Fishing Film Tour in Belize a Success

It was the first ever in Belize and San Pedro had the honor of hosting Costa Del Mar’s Fly Fishing Film Tour 2012. With the help of Tres Pescados Fly Shop of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, fly fishing enthusiasts from all over the world convened at the outdoor viewing theater that was set up at the end of Barrier Reef Drive on Saturday, April 28, 2012.

Costa Del Mar rounded up the best of the best films that were submitted by fishermen from around the world capturing their best fishing experience. The very best are included in the Fly Fishing Film Tour that takes place yearly in the United States and Canada. The screening in San Pedro, Belize was the first ever international screening for this event and the first time it was shown in a Latin American county.

It was a very successful event and organizer Wil Flack told Ambergris Today that he was very happy with the turnout and how much fun everybody had. During the film show, a total of 11 films were showcased including the Film “GeoFish: A Mayan Prophecy”, which is about four fishermen from the US who made their way to Belize on a truck running on cooking-oil to get the best memorable fishing experience in their life. Not to be biased, or anything, but the Belize film was the highlight of the screening for Ambergris Today; it was very well put together and very entertaining.

Give-a-ways at the film screening included copies of StoneFly Magazine, while fishing accessories (including two Costa del Mar sunglasses) and a painting by Melody Sanchez Wolfe were raffled away to the attendants.

All proceeds of this event will go to the Bone Fish Tarpon Trust in Miami for the “Project Permit”. Project Permit is also now active in Mexico and Belize, thanks to Costa® and new support from Sunbrella® and two lodges in Belize – El Pescador and Belize River Lodge – and numerous locations in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.
