Belize Set to Host Two World-Rated Darts Tournaments

For the first time ever Belize will be the host of two prestigious world-rated darts tournaments, the 19th Annual Caribbean Cup and the 6th World Darts Federation Americas Cup. The tournaments take place this month in Belize City from July 20 – 30, 2012.

Sports Councilor Gaby Nuñez presented a check of $1,500Bze to Mr. Omar Guerrero on behalf of the Belize Tourism Board. Mr. Guerrero accepted the donation on behalf of the Belize Darts Federation and that will be used towards the upcoming tournaments taking place at the Biltmore Plaza in Belize City.

The Belize Darts Team consists of 17 players which include seven players from San Pedro – Omar Guerrero, Dimas Guerrero, Mario Graniel, Ricky Manzano, George Eiley, Pedro Lara and Melanie Paz. Other members are Jim Novelo, Wilbur Perez, Valentine Marin, Cecilia Joseph, Marie Osman, Theodore Lennan, Felicia Hulse, David Manzanero, Elvira Meighan and Lorena Guerra (from Caye Caulker, Cayo and Belize teams).

These prestigious world-rated tournaments will involve the National Teams from the Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Costa Rica, Cayman, Florida, Guyana, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, St. Lucia, Turks & Caicos, USA and of course Belize. With each team bringing a full contingent of players and supporters, the tournament will bring up to 150 visitors to Belize for 11 days.

The two tournaments are separate events; the Americas Cup involves the National teams out of USA and Canada and is part of the World Darts Federation’s annual calendar. This event is publicized worldwide and is followed by the other 64 members of the WDF. It takes place from the 20th – 22nd of July.

This is followed on the 25th of July with the Caribbean Cup which also involves a large contingent from Florida, USA. Florida is allowed to compete as a country in the Caribbean Cup as it is one of the founder members of the Caribbean organization.

With representatives from South America, Central America, North America and the Caribbean, Belize is proud to welcome these visitors and looks forward to 11 days of darts, camaraderie and hospitality. Best of luck Team Belize – make us proud!!!
