Missing Body Murder Case on The Island

Police Report, San Pedro, Town, Belize – A 26-year-old woman of Boca Del Rio, San Pedro Town reported that sometime around 6:45pm on Sunday, May 19, 2013, she spoke with JEREMY BAPTIST, 25-year-old, Belizean unemployed of Boca Del Rio, San Pedro Town. She stated that at around 7:45pm he left to attend a party at the Campos residence located in the San Juan Area, San Pedro Town. She stated that she and Jeremy Baptist went to a party and returned home at 10:30pm and that was the last time she had heard or seen Jeremy Baptist.

Jeremy Baptist is of dark complexion, slim built, short, low hair cut and was last seen wearing a white polo shirt with strips, ¾ blue jeans pant, white and red gang bang Nike tennis and a black and red fitted tennis.

An investigation was conducted and revealed that sometime around 1:15am on Monday, May 20, 2013, Jeremy Baptist got into an altercation at the Campos residence with a group of male persons. He was reportedly shot multiple times and was taken up the river in a boat and was dispose of by the group of male persons. However, several checks were made up the river and the coast and the body has not yet been found.

Acoording to 7News Belize 23 year old fisherman and San Mateo resident Lucio Salazar, has been arrested and charged with murder on the DPP’s directive. So how can they do that without finding a body? Well, precedent cases state that, quote, “The fact of death is provable by circumstantial evidence, notwithstanding that neither the body nor any trace of the body has been found”.

Here’s what police have in terms of circumstantial evidence: an eyewitness account saying he saw Baptist shot to the back of his head, and saw his body being hauled into a boat headed to the lagoon. There are also bloodstains in the boat.

Salazar was arraigned this afternoon before Magistrate Sherigne Rodriguez who remanded him to prison until June 26.
