The burning of the image of Don Juan Carnaval takes place at the end of the Carnaval celebrations every year in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, as the folkloric significance of his burning stems back to the 1930’s. It is believed that if the ceremony does not take place bad luck will descend upon the island and even bring death to some island residents.
So on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, the San Pedro Town Council held the folkloric symbolical burning of Don Juan Carnaval at Central Park. It was the culmination of a great festival filled with music, dance, color and joy.
