Recipient, Ms. Angela Bennett, is a mother of 3 children ages 8, 9 and 13, residing on Police Street, who expressed, “It’s really a dream come true. I am a single mother and I do not have the finance to build a new house. Thanks to God because I will be in my new house for Christmas with my children. A major thanks to BEL and Hand in Hand for making my dream come true.”

The family was selected based on HHM’s criteria, which requires beneficiaries of donated houses to display a commitment to community involvement and also participate in the building of their homes.

BEL thanks HHM for the opportunity to support this humbling effort. The house is valued at approximately $18,000 and was constructed over a four-day period.

BEL’s contribution includes 10 wooden tables, 100 wooden chairs, a refrigerator, eating utensils and a cash donation of $5,100. A group of BEL staff also assisted with serving food to children in the feeding program at St. Mary’s Primary School.

St. Mary’s Feeding Program provides a total of 850 meals per week and was established following a survey indicating that a major factor contributing to children’s absence from school was their parents’ inability to afford their meals.

BEL and its employees are once again grateful to be afforded the opportunity to give back to the community. BEL’s community outreach, which focuses on contributions that improve the quality of life in Belize, are continuous. In December, BEL and its employees will provide food hampers in communities countrywide to families in need and serve luncheon for other deserving persons.
