Although life has gone back to normal in the cayes after Hurricane Earl struck Belize, there are still some families in the mainland that have damaged homes and others who were left homeless by the storm. Work continued to provide relief for those affected.

“Thank you to Norwegian Cruise Line for their generous donation to the people of Belize in this time of hardship after Hurricane Earl’s visit,” said Lily Bowman, Director General of Belize Red Cross Society. “This generous donation will allow the Belize Red Cross to assist at least 170 more families, to address what they perceive to be their highest priority need, with dignity.”
“We were devastated to hear of Hurricane Earl’s impact on our neighbors in Belize and are proud to support organizations such as the Red Cross Society to help residents rebuild and regain some sense of normalcy after this natural disaster,” said Colin Murphy, Senior Vice President of Destination & Strategic Development for Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.
SMART Contributes to Hurricane Relief Efforts
Belize telecommunications company SMART also presented a check for $5,000 to the Belize Red Cross this week, on Monday, August 22. SMART thanked all those who made this a reality by contributing under the Smart Cares Program.
SMART activated the program to facilitate customers who wished to join in the relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Earl. Customers had the opportunity to text to CARE (2273) and pledge a donation which was then deducted from their credit. SMART matched all the donations that customers made.
The Belize Red Cross expressed gratitude for the contribution and advised that the funds will be used to assist those affected in the rural areas of the country.
