NEMO Assists Island Families Affected by Sunday’s Storm

Minister of National Emergency Management Hon Edmond Castro was on the Island of Ambergris Caye on Monday, April 16, 2018, where he visited families affected by an unseasonal storm that affected that area this past Sunday, April 15, 2018 around 6:00 AM. Three families, whose dwellings and belongings were damaged by the storm, have since received humanitarian assistance through NEMO.

Hon. Castro was accompanied on his visit by NEMO Central Regional Coordinator, Al Westby; NEMO Belize Rural South Coordinator, Vanessa Parham; San Pedro Councilor with responsibility for NEMO, Damage Assessment & Needs Analysis Gabriel “Gaby” Nunez; and San Pedro Fire Chief Newton Lennon. And, while on the island, the Minister and his team also took the opportunity to visit and thank local business owner Brittany O’Daniel, who has been a consistent donor in assisting NEMO and victims of disaster on the Island.

Last week, NEMO also delivered humanitarian assistance to three families in Crique Jute, Toledo, who were similarly affected by a freak storm in that village on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.

And, while he was in Toledo last Friday, April 13, NEMO Minister Hon Edmond Castro delivered humanitarian assistance to a family in Elridgeville whose home was recently damaged by fire. Hon Castro was accompanied by NEMO Southern Regional Coordinator Keith Emmanuel, Toledo District Coordinator Kenton Parham and Assistant Coordinator Dennis Williams.
