Belizean Selected for Top Position on the Commonwealth Youth Council

Young Belizean – Jordan Craig – now serves on the prestigious Commonwealth Youth Council for the period 2018 to 2020.

The Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC) is the official voice of the young people across all Commonwealth Nations. The Council’s ail is to further advance the your development agenda by integrating young people into the development work of the Commonwealth at national, regional and Pan-commonwealth levels. It also provides a sustainable platform for unified engagement with decision makers and youth-led development initiatives.

Jordan Craig was appointed to the Caribbean and Americas Regional Committee as the Director of Policy and Research. In this role, she is responsible for conducting and spearheading all research efforts for the committee to guide its advocacy, policy and development programs.

Jordan is a Project Officer and Research Assistant with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Belize and holds a MSc in Development Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She also holds a BSc in International Relations and History from the University of West Indies, Mona.

Jordan is passionate about research and enjoys examining data, identifying patterns and analysing relationships. In 2017, she worked on a research consultancy project, where she investigated descriptive political representation in parliaments around the world with Transparency International. She also recently completed an internship with the UN’s International Organization for Migration in Belize, in which she helped to design and implement an accredited course on migration management, and conducted in-depth research and wrote literature reviews on migration-related issues in Central America and the Caribbean, such as human trafficking, migrant smuggling and labour migration.

In addition to her academic and professional qualifications, Jordan is a member of the Belizean Studies Working Group with the Ministry of Education, in which she volunteers in support of the development of a national secondary-level curriculum for Belizean Studies.

Jordan will work alongside none other young professionals from the region on the Caribbean and Americas Regional Committee of the CYC.

The Commonwealth Youth Council will be undertaking an aggressive brand and project awareness campaign, to ensure all young people across the region are aware of the organization’s initiatives.
