The month of September is a very festive one in Belize and more so in our beautiful island of San Pedro because the community dedicates a day to celebrate the Independence of all the Central American countries including Mexico. This year was no exception as Noche Centro Americano was celebrated on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at the Hon. Louis Sylvestre Sports Complex.
The event kicked off with a beautiful parade starting from the Central Park where Marching Band “Latin Band Municipal” from San Jose Guayabal, El Salvador along with their baton girls entertained everyone with sensational musical performances and dances.
After reaching the Sports Field the official ceremony took place with the singing of national anthems and flag raising ceremony. Addressing the crowd was Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr., Mayor Daniel Guerrero, Leader of Opposition BRS – Mr. Andre Perez, and Grieselda Perez from El Salvador.
Entertainment was provided by El Guayabal Latin Band (El Salvador), Black Orkid Dance Groups (Benque Viejo del Carmen, Belize), Grupo Folclore Clandestino (Honduras) and Angie’s Dance Group.
This one of a kind event showcases each country’s culture, food, and music. There were various food booths showcasing and selling delicious traditional food from their respective countries. It was a fun and memorable night as the crowd danced the night away to the cool rhythms of Caribbean Kings. Happy Independence Day to all Central American countries and Mexico!
