The Belize Port Authority, BPA, has informed the public that effective January 1, 2025, the passenger user fee for water taxi services has increased to $3.00 per passenger for fares more than $10 but less than $100. This, they state, is a change in accordance with the Water Taxi (Amendment) Regulations, SI No. 129 of 2022.
In response to the economic challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Belize Port Authority had temporarily reduced this fee to $2 to provide relief to operators and passengers alike. The Authority now says that with the recovery of the economy, the BPA has now reverted to the full fee, which will applied to tickets purchased on or after January 1, 2025.
Water Taxi Fee Necessary
The BPA says that this adjustment in necessary to ensure the continued safety, security, and maintenance of maritime services. “We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work towards improving the overall experience of water taxi users and operators,” stated the BPA.
San Pedro Belize Express Water Taxi has already informed its customers via a Facebook post that the passenger fee has increased from $2 to $3 per trip and that the fee will be reflected in the fee section of their tickets.
