Edita Borham, (nee Vasquez) was born on 16 September, 1931, in what was then the small fishing village of San Pedro, on the island of Ambergris Caye. Her parents were Francisco and Juliana Nunez and she was one of eight children. Her father was a fisherman; life was hard, including having to go through a few deadly hurricanes and food shortages during World War 2. Edita attended the local Roman Catholic Primary School and it was here she first became aware of her faith - so much so that when she finished school she wanted to become a nun.
On Monday, November 30, 2020, UNICEF Belize Representative, Ms. Paulette Wade, handed over 200 backpacks to Mayor Daniel Guerrero and CAB Members, Caroline Sersland (President) and Elsie Belisle. Unfortunately due to the corona virus pandemic, the project was postponed and even though students are practicing distanced learning at home, the backpack can be used at home to store their books and supplies. The bag contains menstrual hygiene management products, sanitation hygiene supplies, and school supplies. The targeted age of students for this project is ages 10 plus.
Born on February 3, 1963, to two San Pedrano parents, Luis Nuñez Sr. and Abelina Nuñez Cardenez, Ali was raised in a loving home, in a healthy community, and surrounded by love and kindness, joyful and humble living, Ali was bound for a healthy life. He had six siblings to share and enjoy his love and happiness – Luis and Mundo Nunez, Zeida Guerrero, Odilia Salazar, Lourdes Luna and Aida Phillips.

Lucio was an outstanding student at San Pedro High School and St. John's College Sixth Form, even receiving top marks in the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) exams for the country of Belize.

We thank the Most Holy Trinity for Don Lucio Guerrero (b. April 22, 1930 – d. December 15, 2019) and his service to the Catholic Church and the community. The grace of God was alive in the life of Don Lucio and through him the community of San Pedro. Called to the vocation of Holy Matrimony, he was faithful to his wife for Ms. Angelita for near 66 years of marriage. Together they generously raised their seven children. He lived in humble circumstances with a strong dependence on God’s providence and faith in Jesus Christ.
Dr. Liborio Ramiro “Lee” Gomez, PhD, age 78, passed away peacefully in his home in Atchison, Kansas, on November 21, 2019. Lee was born on March 11, 1941, in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, Belize, the son of Hilberto and Hilaria Gomez. He graduated from St. John’s College in Belize City before receiving a four-year scholarship to attend St. Benedict’s College in Atchison, Kansas. After completing his bachelor’s degree, he attended St. Louis University to attain his master’s degree and his Ph. D. in Spanish.

The 20th annual Coral Reef Ed-Ventures Summer Camp is returning to Ambergris Caye! The free, fun and educational camp is a collaboration between students from Smith College in Massachusetts, USA and the local Hol Chan Marine Reserve.
