Sings to a very Special Fan of Hers Rossy War, international Tex-Mex artist, was in Belize over the Valentine’s weekend to perform a series of concerts which included Belize City, Orange Walk and in San Pedro Town. But before her concert presentations, Mrs. Rossy War arrived on the island to perform a very special presentation to one lucky fan of hers.
Marine study has good news about Belize Barrier Reef
Conservation International and marine scientists from across the ocean converged in the capital for a multi sector symposium on Belize’s marine life on February 5. The NGO worked along with the Fisheries Department, Healthy Reefs Initiative, and other agencies to examine issues associated with marine protected areas management. Doctor Les Kaufman, the senior investigator for Conservation International’s Marine Management Area Science Project, said that the five year research has shown that Belize’s reef has wonders not seen elsewhere.

Melody Exhibits Art in the City
“I am extremely proud of having this opportunity to share my paintings and inspirations with the people of Belize City,” commented Melody Sanchez Wolfe to Ambergris Today as she readied to launch her art exhibit at the Bliss Institute, in Belize City. Melody, a local Sanpedrana who has been dabbing in the arts since she was little, most recently opened her art gallery on the island and has been painting professionally for only four years. On Tuesday, February 9, 2010, she mounted a show at the Bliss Center in Belize City which she named Windows to the Soul.

World-Renowned Mangrove Reforestation Specialist, Bob Riley, Brings His Expertise to Isla Bonita They provide refuge for many endangered species of mammals, birds and reptiles. They also preserve the environment by filtering pollutants from the water. In south Florida (USA), some 75% of game fish and 90% of fish caught for commercial purposes depend on them. And they create a barrier that protects coastal areas from storms and tides. What are they? Mangroves!

SPHS and Free Musical School to put on Belize’s First Musica! Fiddler on the Roof Returns In San Pedro’s own production of Fiddler on the Roof Returns, one would be hard pressed to add more pomp to this circumstance. The village that it takes to raise a child deserves a pat on the back, because our children are stars. Hats off to the Village Town of San Pedro! More youths from the cast of Fiddler on the Roof Returns are featured next week.
Tour Guide Saves Passenger’s Life!
It seems that boat accidents have been occurring more frequently these days and unfortunately there have been some deaths and injuries in the past few months. This week a boat mishap ended with a much more happy ending as one local tour guide/fisherman found himself capsized by the reef and helping out a dear friend swim to shore. On Tuesday, February 9, Sanpedrano and local fisherman, Mr. Ramon Guerrero had some difficulty out at sea and his boat capsized just a few miles off the coast of North Ambergris Caye in the Palmeros area (near Blue Reef Resort).

El Gran Carnaval of San Pedro is almost here and the Town Council will kick off the celebrations on Saturday, February 13 with a Grand Carnaval Party at Central Park. One of the main highlights for the celebration will be the Miss Carnaval Popularity Contest.

Karaoke? Everybody loves participating or watching karaoke and for quite some years Sanpedranos have had the privilege of watching Channel 5’s Karaoke Television (KTV) competitions. And this year Channel 5 proudly presents KTV Latino, where 14 contestants from all over the country will be performing Spanish songs.
Americas Most Wanted Host filming in Belize
The man, whose face is associated with most of the sought after criminals on the lam, is the host of America’s Most Wanted. And on Wednesday, February 3, the cameras of Ambergris Today caught the AMW host, John Walsh with his film crew in San Pedro, shooting a segment for an episode of America’s Most Wanted. The television show is filming in Belize as there has been a series of American fugitives who have been seeking refuge our country.
Police Receives Golf Cart
It was added stress for C.I.B. personnel when at the time of having to deal with investigations, apart from figuring how to uncover the criminal, they had to figure out first how they would transport themselves or persons concerned from one place to another. This problem is now over as now the investigation unit at San Pedro Police Station has a new golf cart at their disposal to make their job easier.

Those of you who are fans of the High School band – Rock In Peace, know that Lead guitarist – Derrick Baños is a very talented young musician. Derrick Baños has been playing since the age of twelve and is currently a band member of a local band All Cayed UP (ACU), for which Derrick is the bassist, and the band has decided to try and raise enough money to send him to a well known music school in the US for a summer program.
Fire Damages Home in San Pedrito
Firefighters were fast to the scene of a fire that broke out on the second floor of a concrete building in the San Pedrito area at about 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2010. With the assistance of neighbors and tenants of the first floor, the firefighters were quick to oust the fire before major damage was caused to the building.

Golf Cart Goes up in Flames
One golf cart rental on the island finds itself short of one golf cart, as the San Pedro Fire Department reports that at about 1:50a.m. on Monday, January 25, a cart belonging to Island Adventures suddenly burst into flames in front of Grand Colony Island Villas, south of San Pedro Town.
Famed Honduran Coach taking over Belize Football Team
Famed Honduran coach Jose de la Paz Herrera is taking over as the national football coach of Belize. Herrera said he plans to travel next week to Belmopan to sign what is expected to be a one-year contract. Herrera coached Honduras to the 1982 World Cup in Spain, the country's only appearance in the World Cup until this year. He also coached Honduras in the run-up to the 2006 World Cup, which Honduras failed to reach.
